PROGRAM EMU VER 1.00
COPYRIGHT (C) BY VIDEO TECHNOLOGY COMPUTERS 1987
COLOR EMULATION ON MONOCHROME DISPLAY
The program EMU.COM is a utility that enables many CGA software and games to
run with monochrome graphics hardware and use monochrome monitor as the
display.
There are three valid parameters for the program :
1. The COLOR Parameter
EMU COLOR[ENTER]
This parameter enables you to run CGA software and games that require DOS.
Activated with this parameter, the EMU program will first put the display
into 80*25 color emulation mode and then exit to DOS. You are then free to
run any CGA software and games from the DOS prompt.
2. The BOOT Parameter
EMU BOOT[ENTER]
This parameter enables you to run CGA software and games that require system
resetting to boot up. Activated with this parameter, the EMU program will
first put the display into 80*25 color emulation mode, and then prompt you
with the following messege :
Insert your boot disk into drive A
Press any key when ready
After you have put the CGA software or game diskette into drive A and press
a key, the EMU program will reboot the system.
3. The MONO Parameter
EMU MONO[ENTER]
This parameter enables you to go back to normal monochrome mode display.
In addition, there is a HELP MENU when you simply type EMU[ENTER].
In using this utility software, several things are to be noted.
First, the frequency of the video signal generated for the CGA emulation may
be a bit different from the normal frequency for the monochrome display. Thus,
you may have to adjust the VERTICAL HOLD knob of your monitor to get a stable
screen.
Second, in 80*25 color emulation mode, you will find that there is no cursor
on the screen. This is due to the fact that the cursor is a hardware
generated feature, and since no access to CGA hardware is available, there
can be no cursor.
Third, when exiting CGA software and games, please use legal methods provided
by the software, and not illegal breakout like CTRL C. Otherwise, there is no
guarantee that the system can be returned to normal monochrome mode by
EMU MONO. The system may simply hang up.
Fourth, please don't use monochrome graphics software when in emulation mode.
The system may hang up and require a reboot to start again.
Due to the large amount of CGA software and games written, and the diversed
coding practices of progammers, there can be no guarantee that all CGA
software and games can be run. However, we have try our best to provide
compatibility to as many CGA software as possible and we hope you will find
it convenient to have this utility with you.
